There are four ways to attach the DigiSpark to the board, with these choices:
- Permanent or Removable
- Top or Bottom
The recommended attachment is “Removable Top” with the female headers attached to the DigiSpark and the male headers attached to the board. Skip to your desired attachment section.
Removable Top
This attachment style ensures compatibility with the cases we’re making and allows you to easily swap out your DigiSpark if needed.
Place the male headers into the board.
You can bend the outer pins on the underside of the board to help you hold the headers on while you solder. Or, you can use masking tape to hold them.
Solder all nine pins! The ground pin will take a little longer to heat up.
Stick the female headers onto the male headers and place the DigiSpark on top. Solder the female header pins to the DigiSpark.

Permanent Top
This attachment style gives your controller a lower profile.
Place the female headers into the board.
You can bend the outer pins on the underside of the board to help you hold the headers on while you solder. Or, you can use masking tape to hold them.
Solder all nine pins! The ground pin will take a little longer to heat up.
Place the DigiSpark onto the top of the male headers and solder the pins.
Cut the excess pins with your diagonal cutters.

Removable Bottom
This attachment style gets the DigiSpark out of view, but is not necessarily compatible with the cases we’re making.
Follow the directions for Removable Top, but do everything on the opposite side of the board.

Permanent Bottom
This attachment style gets the DigiSpark out of view and gives the board a low profile, but if you need to replace the DigiSpark, you will have to desolder it.
Follow the directions for Permanent Top, but do everything on the opposite side of the board.
